Hellas will be at the center of international racing cycling action with the “ΔΕΗ International Tour of Hellas”, 10 years after the last Hellenic Cycling Tour. The Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, Mr. Lefteris Avgenakis announced the revival of the race a few weeks ago.
The race is part of the UCI upgraded calendar for 2022 (2.1 category), with the participation of 140 stars of the sport from 20 professional and national teams. This is a world-class event that returns to Hellas, aiming to highlight the demanding sport of cycling and, in addition to promote the beauties of Hellas.
The revival of the “ΔΕΗ International Tour of Hellas” is going to be held from April 27th to May 1st 2022, starting from Crete. Afterwards, the peloton will resume the race to the mainland, and the finish line is set in Ioannina.
A series of side events will be held before and during the races. The goal is to achieve a larger involvement of citizens with cycling and also their gradual familiarization with the correct and safe use of the bicycles.
The race is being divided into 5 stages and the first will start on April 27th from Heraklion, Crete. The cities of Athens, Trikala and Ioannina will be in the center of attention, as they will host athletes and members of the cycling teams as well as the side events. “Cycling Greece” is the organizing committee for the race in collaboration with the “Hellenic Cycling Federation”and the local authorities of the hosting cities.
