History
The Tour of Hellas is one of the most iconic sporting events in Greece, connecting the history of Greek cycling with younger generations. First launched in 1968 under the name “Antiquities Trophy,” the Tour was not just an athletic race but also a cultural event showcasing the natural beauty and rich history of Greece.
Over the decades, the cyclists who participated in the Tour created unforgettable moments of athletic excellence. Notable figures such as Kanellos Kanellopoulos, Vasilis Anastopoulos, and Ioannis Tamouridis left an indelible mark on the sport of cycling. Despite challenging conditions and limited resources, Greek athletes consistently demonstrated their determination and skill.
The revival of the Tour in 2022, following a decade-long hiatus, marked a significant milestone for sports in Greece. Organized under the auspices of the Deputy Ministry of Sports and Cycling Greece, the event combined its competitive nature with a powerful message of sustainability: “Cycling: Fitness, Recreation, Transportation.” This slogan emphasizes the bicycle as a tool that promotes health, entertainment, and eco-friendly urban mobility.
The Tour’s growing impact enhances Greece's international appeal, attracting athletes from around the globe. At the same time, it inspires younger generations, underscoring the power of collective effort and the enduring passion for sports. Today, the Tour of Hellas is not just a race—it is a symbol of culture, athleticism, and sustainable development.
